About us: Background and concept Our basic idea is that Remote Sensing and GIS should be used for providing information that can be directly used in planning. The technology has not much value in itself but has to be tuned with knowledge on the ground processes. We have more than 20 yr. experience with digital remote sensing and GIS, with research backgrounds within human geography, ecology and biology. Our approaches are developed by an understanding on ground factors as ecology and socio-economic drive to interpret image indicators. We have a broad approach to natural resource management where we master modelling of most aspects within forestry, biodiversity, hydrology and socio-economic factors driving resource utilization. One of our prime goals has been to develop our remote sensing / GIS tools to quantify biodiversity and habitats in all environments. Already, seven years ago we have produce ground breaking methods to quantify biodiversity and we have now developed methods for a series of environments including at sea using state-of-the-art methods from i.e. the landscape ecology school. We have extensive capacity building experience and by other things introduced the use digital satellite images in several countries and made institutional build up in 8 countries on 3 continents. Methods We work on a digital approach typically as applied research, where we have developed many ground-breaking approaches by incorporation of field data into modelling of i.e. image layers. Internationally we have a big network and our approach is to use local knowledge and capacity as an integrated part of solving an assignment. Consultancy We do all type of consultancy from back-up in research programs over donor agency/governmental capacity building to local administration and use – we have experience in all parts of project cycles. Further, we are provider of most satellite image data as we provide in any processing level required by our costumers. Tools We are super-users in most major program packaged including: ERDAS, ESRI, MapInfo, Idrisi etc. and various statistical and data base packages. |
