MASSIVE BARK BEETLE ATTACK ON World Heritage Bialowieza / Belovezhskaya forest
The Bialowieza/Belovezhskaya forest is considered to be the biological riches lowland forest in Europe. The forest is situated 2/3 in Belarus and 1/3 in Poland.
By the use of Landsat TM data it was possible to trace areas of infection which revealed, that especially that the Belarusian side of the forest is infected. The image data showed areas that was first discovered after the recording of the images.
A potential spread map was produced by mapping of spruce more than 60 yr within a 200 m radius from infected areas.
