Analysing deforestation over 25 years in Bialowieza

(Last time observed cleared: blue 1973, green 1987, yellow 1992, red 1997)

There have been various rumors on rates of deforestation in the World Heritage forest

Bialowieza. A multi-temporal deforestation analysis was made from Landsat data over

a 25 years period (1973-97), assisted by LISS 5 m resolution data to spot selective

cutting. The result showed a general decrease in deforestation and change in logging

practice.
