Belovezhskaya forest
The Bialowieza/Belovezhskaya
forest is considered to
be the biological riches lowland
forest in
Europe. The forest is
situated 2/3 in Belarus and 1/3 in Poland.
By the use of Landsat TM data it was possible to map areas
which was infectioned by bark beetles and revealed, that especially that the
Belarusian part of the forest was infected. The image data showed areas that was
first discovered after the recording of the images.
A potential spread map was produced by mapping of spruce
more than 60 yr within a
200 m radius from infected
areas (red and orange in the above map).
